The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reacted to complaints from candidates who spent money trying to access their 2026 UTME results after the exam held on April 17.
Delay Sparks Frustration Among Candidates
Concerns began to spread when many candidates repeatedly attempted to check their results following an earlier indication that they would be released on Saturday, April 18. This led to multiple charges for some users, even though the results were not yet available.
JAMB Explains Delay, Issues Apology
JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, had earlier informed candidates to expect updates before midnight but later apologised when the timeline was not met.
He said:
“Our Chief Executive was unavailable due to an important engagement but would be in the office today, and we assure you that the results will be released later today, surely before nightfall,” he said.
He further explained that the delay was due to the sensitive process involved in releasing results, which required the registrar’s direct input.
Refund Requests Rejected
Following the incident, some candidates called for refunds over the repeated charges incurred while checking their results.
However, Benjamin dismissed these demands, stating that JAMB never officially confirmed that the results had been released at the time.
He said:
“Why would you say they deduct money for something that has not been released? When we release results, we will tell Nigerians. So what refunds are you talking about? If they check, how is that supposed to be our business?”
Candidates Urged to Await Official Updates
JAMB has advised candidates to wait for official confirmation before attempting to check their results to avoid unnecessary charges, stressing that updates will be communicated through the appropriate channels.
