Daniel Laryea, the embattled referee who officiated Nigeria vs Morocco AFCON match has finally reacted to the online criticism against him.
Morocco knocked Nigeria out of the AFCON competition via penalties in a tough semi-final tie, leading to backlashes from netizens.
Several Nigerians accused him taking sides during the game by favouring Morocco.
However, in a recent development, a video showed the moment the referee arrived in his country, Ghana. He received a warm welcome before getting interviewed by a man.
Reacting to the criticism against him, he stated that he only focus on football and undertake his task without giving attention to social media banters.
He insinuated that the criticism was all part of football. Daniel Laryea also spoke on his decision of not awarding a penalty to Morocco when it appeared that Calvin Bassey’s hand touched the ball in the penalty box.
He noted that VAR did their checks and dismissed the call for a penalty. He added that when a player’s hand is in its natural position and the ball accidentally bounces on it from the body, the player can’t be penalized.
