The Nigerian entertainment industry has been hit by another tragic loss following reports that veteran Nollywood actor Patrick Okoye, widely known as Energy, has died.
News of his passing surfaced on Thursday morning, May 28, 2026. Reports indicated that the actor, who also worked as a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, passed away in the early hours of the day.
The first public announcement appeared on the actor’s official Instagram page at about 11 a.m. A photo of Patrick Okoye was shared alongside a short tribute that read,
“Rest in peace legend.”
The post quickly attracted reactions from fans, colleagues and followers, many of whom expressed disbelief and sadness over the development.
A separate statement later shared on Facebook further confirmed the actor’s death.
The statement, reportedly signed by Dr Nkemakonam Aniukwu, Head of the Department of Theatre and Film Studies at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, described the late actor as an outstanding teacher, respected filmmaker and energetic personality.
The department noted that his death had left a deep void among staff members, students and those who had the privilege of working closely with him.
Condolences and prayers were also extended to his family and loved ones during the difficult period.
Patrick Okoye was well known in Nollywood for his remarkable performances in movies over the years. Outside acting, he dedicated much of his life to teaching and mentoring upcoming talents in theatre and film studies.
Students and colleagues reportedly admired him for his humility, dedication and passion for developing young creatives in the industry.
His passing comes shortly after the death of Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, whose demise also sparked widespread mourning across the entertainment scene.
