A civil engineering student, Peter Ogundiran, has sparked buzz online after showing off the dividend he recently received from his MTN shares.
He took to his X account, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday to share a screenshot revealing the exact amount paid to him by MTN.
In a brief post, he simply wrote, “MTN dividend received.”
In the comment section, a curious user asked what a dividend means, prompting him to offer a clear explanation.
According to Investing Nigeria, MTN Nigeria (MTN N) pays dividends irregularly, with an annual payout of ₦20.00 and a five-year growth rate of 16.3%.
Peter while explaining wrote:
“Dividend is money paid to shareholders from profit realized from operations.”
While Peter did not specify when he bought the MTN shares and how many units he bought, he replied in the affirmative when a netizen wrote:
“You must have invested 1.5m to get this. Cheers.”
It was later revealed that Peter Ogundiran received ₦27,000 as dividend, drawing congratulatory reactions from Nigerians online.
