The Nigerian Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced the suspects linked to the school abduction in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State to life imprisonment.
The latest development occurred on Thursday, July 23, 2026, after the three suspects were convicted and each sentenced to life imprisonment for the respective charges against them.
The three suspects, identified as Abdulrazak Umar, Yunusa Musa, and Shamsudin Sani, were arraigned before the Federal High Court, presided over by Justice Salim Ibrahim. They pleaded guilty to being members of Darul Salam, an affiliate of Ansaru and a proscribed terrorist organization.
The first and third defendants, Abdulrazak Umar and Shamsudin Sani, both pleaded guilty to providing training, instructions and inciting members of their WhatsApp group titled “The oneness of Allah is the Foundation of Peace.”
The court stated that their sentences would begin from the date of their arrest.
Before delivering judgement in the case, Justice Salim Ibrahim noted that the suspects were first-time offenders and had already pleaded guilty to the charges. According to him, this indicated that the suspects were remorseful for their actions.
He also noted that the offenders were married men who carried the responsibilities of several relatives, a factor that was taken into consideration when sentencing them.
The latest development comes as a step in the right direction following the rescue of the abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.
