The ruling All Progressives Congress has named former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim as chairman of its presidential primary election committee ahead of the 2027 elections.
Anyim, who served as Senate president from 2000 to 2003 and later worked as Secretary to the Government of the Federation under former President Goodluck Jonathan, was announced as the head of the committee constituted by the party.
Prominent APC chieftain Sanusi Musa was appointed secretary of the committee, while several influential politicians were selected as members, including former Senate President Ken Nnamani and a former Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The APC also appointed all serving governors under the party as coordinators of the presidential primaries in their respective states. Among them are Hope Uzodimma and Siminalayi Fubara.
Earlier, the party fixed Saturday, May 23, for its presidential primary election in line with the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka confirmed the development in a statement issued on Thursday, May 21.
According to him, the appointments and decisions were approved by the party’s National Working Committee in line with the APC constitution, the Electoral Act, and the party’s commitment to conducting transparent and credible primary elections.
