A fresh development has surfaced in the ongoing feud between media personality Roby Ekpo and his estranged wife Mayowa Lambe, as a lawyer based in the United States has volunteered to represent Ekpo.
Pro Bono Representation Announced
The lawyer, Bolanle Cole, made the announcement in a post shared on X on Thursday, April 23, stating that he would handle the case free of charge.
He noted that his involvement would include reaching out to US authorities over claims linked to Mayowa’s recent marriage.
Referencing the ₦100 million lawsuit filed against Ekpo, Cole signaled his readiness to contest the allegations.
He wrote:
“Dear Roby Ekpo, I write in response to the recent suit instituted against you in the sum of ₦100,000,000.00, arising from circumstances surrounding a marriage that, by law, still subsists,”
He further stated:
“We will also be writing to the U.S. Embassy regarding allegations of a fraudulent marriage entered into for the purpose of securing immigration benefits,”
Cole added that he would take up the case without charging fees, saying:
“I have taken a keen interest in this matter and will be representing you on a pro bono basis. This matter will be approached with professionalism, diligence, and a firm commitment to justice,”
Cease-and-Desist Sparks Legal Battle
The latest twist follows a cease-and-desist notice issued by Mayowa Lambe to her estranged husband.
Through her legal representatives, she demanded that Ekpo stop making what she described as defamatory statements, remove related content, issue a public apology, and pay ₦100 million in damages.
Ekpo Responds to Allegations
The legal dispute stems from Ekpo’s appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, where he made several claims about their marriage, including allegations of infidelity, deception, and financial issues.
In response, Ekpo through his legal team denied any wrongdoing and maintained that his statements were based on his personal experiences.
His lawyers also described the ₦100 million demand as excessive and premature, adding that he is prepared to defend himself.
Dispute Takes International Dimension
With the involvement of a US-based lawyer and the mention of possible communication with American authorities, the matter appears to be expanding beyond Nigeria. The situation continues to attract attention as both parties stand their ground.
