Former senator representing Katsina South Senatorial District, Bello Mandiya, has died in Abuja at the age of 62.
Mandiya reportedly passed away on Monday, with the Katsina State Government confirming his death later that evening.
Ibrahim Mohammed, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dikko Radda, disclosed that the late politician would be buried in Abuja on Tuesday.
The circumstances surrounding his death have not been disclosed.
Governor Radda Mourns Former Senator
Governor Dikko Radda expressed sadness over the death, describing Mandiya’s passing as a major loss to both Katsina State and Nigeria.
The governor said:
“I received with shock and deep sadness the news of the death of Senator Bello Mandiya. His passing is a great loss to Katsina State and Nigeria,”
Radda also highlighted the former senator’s contribution to public service, saying:
“Senator Mandiya dedicated part of his life to public service and served our people with commitment. His contributions will remain remembered.”
The governor extended his sympathy to Mandiya’s family, former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari, residents of Katsina South, his political associates and colleagues who served alongside him in the Senate.
Radda also prayed for the peaceful repose of the former lawmaker’s soul and asked God to grant his loved ones the strength to cope with the loss.
Bello Mandiya’s Political Career
Before becoming a senator, Mandiya served as Chief of Staff to former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari.
He later contested the 2019 senatorial election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and emerged victorious in Katsina South.
Mandiya subsequently served in the ninth National Assembly, representing the senatorial district until the end of his tenure in 2023.
His death has brought an end to the public career of a politician who occupied prominent positions in Katsina State and at the national level.
