A claim circulating on Facebook has alleged that 70 out of the 120 members of Israel’s parliament, known as the Knesset, have backed Biafra and called for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
In a short 30-second clip, the individual behind the post said:
“Hello, my people, earlier last week, I told you that the Israeli parliament is going to hold a Biafran session. It has been reported that over 70 members of parliament, out of 120, have supported Biafran freedom. In no time, they will be coming out with better news for the possibility of Biafran freedom.”
By March 12, 2026, the video had attracted 507 likes, 36 comments, 91 shares, and over 2,000 views.
While many users appeared to believe and support the claim, one commenter rejected it outright, writing, “Lies, lies, lies.”
Social media has long played a major role in spreading political narratives, particularly those tied to separatist movements.
Groups like the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) remain very active online, frequently sharing content that promotes their agenda. This kind of digital space often allows unverified information to spread quickly and gain attention.
However, fact-checking platform Dubawa found no credible evidence to support the claim.
Searches across reputable international outlets, including The Times of Israel and The Jerusalem Post, did not produce any reports suggesting that Israeli lawmakers had discussed or endorsed Biafra or Nnamdi Kanu.
Although the Knesset indeed has 120 members, there is no record of any session, debate, or resolution related to Biafra. Even a review of the parliament’s official schedule showed no mention of such a topic.
Further checks revealed that the Knesset’s official YouTube channel contains no videos referencing Biafra, focusing instead on domestic matters such as politics, the economy, and national security.
Likewise, no Nigerian media organisations have reported any involvement by Israel in Biafra-related issues.
Based on available evidence, there is no indication that Israel’s parliament has ever deliberated on Biafra or supported the release of Nnamdi Kanu. The claim that 70 lawmakers endorsed the cause is unfounded and should be treated as false information.
Nnamdi Kanu is the leader of IPOB, a group pushing for the secession of Biafra from Nigeria.
Born in 1967, he rose to prominence through his broadcasts on Radio Biafra, where he advocated for self-determination.
Over the years, he has been arrested multiple times and remains a figure hailed as a freedom fighter by his supporters, while critics accuse him of fueling unrest.
