Ikeja Electric has alerted residents and business owners in the Amuwo-Odofin area of Lagos State to expect possible power interruptions that could last for several months due to planned maintenance activities.
The disruption is connected to the rehabilitation of a 132kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substation at the Amuwo Transmission Station.
Customers in the affected locations have been advised to make necessary preparations for the expected outages.
This update was shared in a statement posted on the company’s official X handle on Wednesday, March 18.
According to the notice, the exercise is set to begin on Wednesday, March 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. and is expected to run until Thursday, July 30, 2026.
During the project, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) will collaborate with Ikeja Electric to reduce the impact on consumers as much as possible.
Areas to be affected include those served by the following feeders:
- 11-AmuwoINJ-T1 – Old Ojo Road
- 11-AmuwoINJ-T1 – ljesha Express
- 11-AmuwoINJ-T2 – Jakande 1
- 11-AmuwoINJ-T2 – Jakande 2
- 33-AmuwoTCN – Amukoko
- 33-AmuwoTCN – Hongxing 1
- 33-AmuwoTCN – Hongxing 2
Power supply in these areas may be disrupted intermittently while the upgrade is ongoing.
The company explained that the project is aimed at improving the strength, reliability, and efficiency of electricity supply within the affected communities.
The statement reads:
“Please be informed that rehabilitation and maintenance works on the 132kV GIS substation at the Amuwo Transmission Station will commence on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. and are expected to continue until Thursday, July 30, 2026.
During this period, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and Ikeja Electric will work collaboratively to minimise the impact of the project on customers served by the listed feeders. This critical upgrade is aimed at strengthening the power infrastructure and enhancing the reliability and efficiency of electricity supply to customers within the affected areas.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued cooperation.”
Energy experts have noted that large-scale substation upgrades are essential for strengthening grid performance.
