Nollywood actor Saidi Balogun has praised the Chief Imam of Ilaro for what he described as an outstanding display of honesty following the death of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
During Ogogo’s burial proceedings, the Chief Imam reportedly revealed that the late actor had entrusted him with N25 million meant for the renovation of a mosque or the family house.
Following Ogogo’s death, the cleric decided to return the entire amount to the actor’s family, publicly announcing that the money had been refunded.
Saidi Balogun Speaks on the Imam’s Integrity
Impressed by the Chief Imam’s decision, Saidi Balogun took to social media to commend his character, contrasting the act with what he described as declining moral standards in society.
He wrote:
“The Chief Imam of Ilaro, with whom Ogogo reportedly kept 25million for Mosque or family house renovation. The matter was between Ogogo, the Baba Imam and Allah. After the actor’s death, the Chief Imam sent the money to the family and made a full refund on demand. What an exemplary Muslim, Imam! When some have traded their heaven for wealth, Ilaro Chief Imam has traded his earthly comfort for paradise.”
Saidi further revealed that the Chief Imam had previously demonstrated a similar level of integrity while serving as Amir Hajj, the leader of Ogun State Muslim pilgrims travelling to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
Imam Reportedly Returned Unspent Hajj Funds
According to Saidi, the cleric also showed remarkable honesty during his time as Amir Hajj.
After the pilgrimage, the Chief Imam reportedly returned all funds that remained unused to the Ogun State government rather than keeping the money.
Saidi concluded his tribute by encouraging people to examine their own conduct and values.
He wrote:
“Let’s check our own individual minds. This is a true Ambassador of Islam. Let’s celebrate Him.”
The actor’s tribute has drawn attention not only to Ogogo’s legacy but also to the Chief Imam’s reported acts of integrity, which have now received widespread public recognition.
