President Bola Tinubu has appointed Minister of Works David Umahi to a significant position in the All Progressives Congress (APC) 223-member presidential campaign council ahead of the 2027 elections.
Umahi will serve as the Deputy Director General for Infrastructure, Mobilisation and Sensitisation as the ruling party intensifies preparations for the presidential contest.
The appointment comes amid growing political activities as the APC begins putting its campaign structure in place for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Umahi backs Tinubu for second term
The Minister of Works has also appealed to residents of Ebonyi, Benue, Enugu, Cross River and other states to support Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
Umahi made the call during an inspection of the Cross River-Ebonyi-Benue-Abuja Trans-Saharan Highway at the weekend.
He argued that retaining Tinubu in office would help guarantee the completion of several ongoing federal road projects across the affected states.
Tribune Online quoted Umahi as saying:
“By the end of 2031, which will be the end of President Bola Tinubu’s second tenure if he is re-elected, these projects and roads would have been fully completed. I commend the President very highly.”
The minister described the president’s intervention in some communities as significant, particularly areas that had previously lacked adequate federal road infrastructure.
Umahi said:
“I think the President is a miracle to these communities because without this intervention, many of them would not have been able to move their agricultural produce, vehicles and machinery.”
Umahi asks Nigerians to recognise Tinubu’s efforts
The Ebonyi politician also encouraged residents of the affected communities to acknowledge the federal government’s infrastructure projects.
He stated:
“I want the public to appreciate what the president is doing. I appeal to the communities in Benue, Enugu, Ebonyi, Cross River and other parts of the country to acknowledge and appreciate the federal government’s intervention.”
Umahi further compared the current infrastructure drive with previous administrations, saying:
“If previous presidents had intervened in this manner, perhaps we would not be in the kind of situation we are facing today.”
