Rare footage showing the gravesite of the late National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Lagos State Organising Secretary, Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Toba Ijaya, has emerged online, giving mourners and members of the public a glimpse into his final resting place.
The footage surfaced just days after the union official was buried on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, following an outpouring of grief from his colleagues, friends and members of the community.
According to PUNCH, a solemn Islamic prayer session was held at his residence in the Fadeyi area of Lagos on Thursday, July 22.
The gathering attracted dozens of men and women who came together to honour the deceased and offer their final respects. Islamic clerics also led prayers in memory of the late union leader.
Gravesite Adorned With Floral Tribute
Images and footage from the gravesite showed Toba Ijaya’s tombstone bearing his picture and surrounded by floral arrangements.
The flowers had been carefully arranged to spell out the word “ICON,” serving as a symbolic tribute to a man whose presence appeared to have made a lasting impact on those who knew him.
The gravesite also featured an inscription that read, “In loving memory of our dearly beloved brother, uncle and father.”
How Toba Ijaya was killed
Ajiboye’s death was linked to a violent attack. The union leader reportedly lost his life after armed men attacked him along Ikorodu Road as he made his way home from his childhood neighbourhood in Fadeyi, reports The PUNCH Newspaper.
His death has created a major void within the NURTW and the wider Lagos transport community.
The large turnout at his burial and the subsequent prayer sessions further highlighted the respect and affection he commanded among his colleagues, associates and members of the Fadeyi community.
