An account on Elon Musk’s X platform identified as @pepebrizzy has shed light on the past reputation and activities of late NURTW Organizing Secretary, Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Toba Ijaya, before he eventually took on a different path in life.
Toba Ajiboye, who was widely recognised as Toba Ijaya, passed away on July 14, 2026, after succumbing to serious gunshot wounds sustained during a deadly attack allegedly carried out by suspected gunmen.
The incident occurred on Sunday night as Ijaya was reportedly returning from his childhood neighbourhood in Fadeyi.
He was travelling in a white vehicle alongside other passengers when the assailants reportedly ambushed them and opened fire before escaping from the area.
Although Ijaya initially survived the attack and was rushed to the hospital for treatment, the NURTW official was later confirmed dead.
The story of Toba Ijaya
In a detailed post about the late NURTW Chieftain, the X user recounted some of the activities and events from Ijaya’s past that reportedly earned him recognition in certain parts of Lagos State.
According to the account, Toba Ijaya rose to prominence as a street warlord in the Fadeyi community of Lagos State.
@pepebrizzy alleged that Ijaya was behind several attacks and street fights beginning from 2002, incidents which reportedly resulted in several casualties.
The poster further claimed that, during that period, the late NURTW Official was known for his fearlessness and ruthlessness, as he allegedly confronted armed policemen and opposition figures without backing down.
According to the X user, this reputation eventually earned Toba Ijaya the street nickname “Ikoko”, which translates to “hyena” in English.
The poster also claimed that the Fadeyi community was split into two territories, with the left side allegedly under the control of Toba Ijaya, while his rival, identified as Femi Japlum, was said to have controlled the right side.
He alleged that the activities of the two men created serious unrest in the community, with gun battles reportedly becoming a regular occurrence.
As a result of the violence and insecurity, several landlords and residents were allegedly forced to abandon their homes and relocate in order to protect themselves.
The poster further stated that after Toba Ijaya leveraged his influence to become part of the NURTW, he began making a significant amount of money and gradually distanced himself from his former way of life.
He also claimed that the late NURTW official eventually reconciled with some of the people who had become his enemies during his earlier years and went on to dedicate himself to supporting members of the community.
