South African football has been thrown into mourning following the death of midfielder Jayden Adams at the age of 25, only two weeks after he represented Bafana Bafana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
His sudden passing has sparked an outpouring of grief from across the football world.
Authorities in Cape Town confirmed that an investigation is underway after the body of a 25-year-old man was found at a residential property in Schotschekloof, a suburb located in central Cape Town, on the morning of Saturday, July 11, 2026.
As reported by BBC Sport, Adams played in all three of South Africa’s group-stage fixtures at the World Cup. The team progressed to the round of 32 before their campaign ended with a defeat to co-hosts Canada.
His impressive displays during the tournament attracted widespread praise and strengthened belief that he had a bright future ahead in top-level football.
Adams’ final post before his death
Less than 24 hours before his death, Adams unknowingly shared what would become his final social media activity.
On Friday, July 10, 2026, his girlfriend, Aqueelah Chloe Adendorf, posted a photo of the pair together on social media.
Tuko Sports reported that Adams reshared the photograph to his own story later that day. By the next morning, news of his death had emerged.
