Saudi Arabia has immediately halted its visa-on-arrival programme for citizens of 14 countries.
The updated policy also applies to travellers who possess valid visas or residence permits issued by the United Kingdom, the United States, or the European Union.
An internal circular issued by immigration authorities states that the measure is part of operational changes introduced to manage travel during the peak Hajj pilgrimage period.
The suspension will stay in effect until further notice. However, travellers who already hold regular tourist visas issued directly by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia before the directive took effect will not be affected.
Which 14 countries are affected by the visa-on-arrival suspension
The restriction covers countries across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Those impacted by the temporary suspension are:
1. Egypt
2. Jordan
3. Tunisia
4. Algeria
5. Morocco
6. Pakistan
7. Bangladesh
8. Nigeria
9. Indonesia
10. Ethiopia
11. Sudan

What does the new rule mean for intending Umrah pilgrims?
The implementation of the directive has already caused travel complications for some passengers at international airports.
Social media user, Ibironke Khadeejah Quadri, issued an urgent advisory after someone close to her encountered difficulties while attempting to travel through the UK.
“If you are planning Umrah from the UK with a UK Visa on a Nigerian Passport, Please get Your Tourist Visa or any suitable ones before you travel,” Quadri shared.
She further revealed that immigration officials have begun enforcing the policy, adding, “VISA ON ARRIVAL is currently suspended for Nigerian passport holders. One of my persons was affected today so I know it’s been enforced. Please don’t be caught out.”
Aviation officials are advising travellers from the affected countries to obtain the appropriate travel visas before heading to the airport to avoid disruptions during check-in or boarding.
