A Nigerian man identified as @BestofDem_szn on X has narrated how he mistakenly transferred N1.8 million to a wrong individual’s Opay account, with the touching turn of events sparking widespread conversations online about honesty.
According to the sender, he initially felt discouraged about getting his money back after discovering that the receiver’s phone line was switched off following the transaction.
However, he decided to try calling again after 30 minutes, and this time the receiver picked up the call.
During their conversation, the sender pleaded for a refund and even authorised the receiver to deduct N100,000 from the money for himself before returning the rest.
To his surprise, the receiver returned the entire N1,800,000 without taking a single naira from it.
Moved by the receiver’s honesty, @BestofDem_szn voluntarily sent N150,000 back to him as a token of appreciation, despite the receiver not asking for anything.
Narrating the experience on X, he wrote:
“I sent 1.8m to someone’s opay account by mistake, I called the number it was switched off, I was already giving up. I called 30 minutes later the person picked and i pleaded with him to return it. I said he should remove 100k and send the rest. He sent back 1.8m, without removing anything from it. I sent him 150k without thinking twice.”
The story has since gone viral, with many Nigerians applauding the receiver’s integrity and praising the sender’s generosity in return, with several describing the senario as a rare and heartwarming display of honesty in today’s society.
