Nigerian Afrobeat star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has launched a sharp verbal attack on Reno Omokri over comments explaining why he has not resumed his duties in Mexico.
Reports indicate that the former presidential aide, speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, addressed concerns surrounding his delayed assumption of office and clarified his position on the matter.
Omokri stated that Mexico has not rejected his appointment, insisting that claims suggesting otherwise are being driven by politically motivated narratives allegedly pushed by opposition forces.
Following his remarks, Davido reacted on his Instagram story, directing a strongly worded insult at Omokri.
He wrote: “Umu Bingo @renoomokri. Fowl”.
This latest exchange comes against the backdrop of Davido’s continued advocacy for abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oyo state, a cause he has remained vocal about despite criticism from the former presidential aide.
The singer had earlier drawn widespread attention during his appearance at the FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
On stage at the high-profile event, Davido wore a specially customised black jacket featuring the names of 39 kidnapped schoolchildren and seven teachers abducted from the Ahoro-Esinle and Yawota communities in Oyo state.
The back of the jacket carried the inscription “Bring Them Home,” while a white shirt worn underneath prominently displayed the word “Nigeria.”
Reacting to Davido’s gesture, Reno Omokri argued that publicising such situations may not be the most effective approach when dealing with kidnappers and terrorist groups.
He maintained that drawing excessive attention could risk empowering criminal networks rather than compelling them to release their captives.
Citing former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Omokri stated that “publicity is the oxygen of terrorism.” He added that while Davido’s intentions may have been noble, such public campaigns could unintentionally provide abductors with the attention they seek.
Davido, however, did not directly respond to Omokri’s arguments. Instead, he chose a more indirect approach that many interpreted as a firm rebuttal.
Hours after the criticism surfaced, the singer posted several images from the concert across his social media platforms.
Alongside the photos, he wrote: “BRING THEM HOME.”
He later reshared the images, further reinforcing his message and making his stance unmistakably clear.
