Nigerian filmmaker, Chilmereze Henry Ahunanya, has made a controversial claim about the sexuality of Nollywood actor, Alexx Ekubo, while paying tribute following reports of his death.
The news of the actor’s passing on May 12th, 2026, at a Lagos State hospital, reportedly after complications linked to advanced metastatic kidney cancer, has continued to send shockwaves through the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Celebrities, colleagues, and fans have since taken to social media to express grief and share tributes.
Among those who reacted was Chilmereze Henry Ahunanya, popularly known as Preacheze on Instagram, who also shared a tribute to the late actor.
However, his message went further, as he made indirect remarks touching on Ekubo’s personal life and sexuality.
In his post, he suggested that the actor was not allowed to fully live freely, alleging that he was often subjected to bullying and pressure from critics who wanted him to get married.
He wrote:
“Rest in perfect peace Alex Ekubo may your gentle soul rest in peace.
Everyone deserves to live their lives fully and bold. But yours was full with bullies and haters. That wanted to force you into a marriage.
That would have pleased them and not you. Choosing not to put a woman in an unhappy marriage. Was bravery not weakness. How wish you put your true and real self out there.”
He further made additional insinuations suggesting that Alexx Ekubo may have been homosexual but was not publicly open about it, also questioning whether a man he allegedly loved remained with him until his passing
He added: “The alleged man you loved hope he stayed by you to the end.
Sexuality isn’t always about sex but loving someone like david loved Jonathan till the end.
As Alex loved IK. Rest well my senior colleagues atleast you isnt drug addiction or madness. May my day to come and i too well rest from this wicked and evil world.”
