Retired Nigerian Army General, Major General Abubakar Rabe, and his wife have appealed to authorities for help after being kidnapped by armed bandits in Katsina State.
Footage circulated by their captors shows the couple under duress, with the general’s wife, Hajiya Amina Abubakar, speaking on behalf of their abductors to relay a list of conditions for their release.
Among the demands put forward, the bandits are seeking the freedom of three named individuals currently in custody — referred to as Sani, Aminu, and Nasiru — two of whom were reportedly detained in Jikamshi and one in Kano.
The group is also calling for the return of livestock they claim was confiscated from them.
Hajiya Amina directed her appeal specifically at the Katsina State Government and officials across five local government areas, urging them to meet the captors’ terms to bring both her and her husband home safely.
The retired general also spoke briefly, stressing the importance of peaceful resolution and noting that the armed group had indicated a willingness to engage in dialogue.
The couple was reportedly ambushed on Saturday, May 30, while travelling toward Katsina.
Their driver, Abdullahi Sa’idu, was with them at the time of the attack, which occurred along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road in the Matazu Local Government Area.
