Popular Yoruba actress, Wumi Toriola has reacted after a heated debate about her age surfaced on social media.
The discussion began after a viral video from a recent event surfaced online, which showed a tense but ultimately humorous exchange between the actress and influencer Enioluwa Adeoluwa.
In the clip, Enioluwa greeted Toriola by calling her “Wumi,” a move that did not sit well with the actress.
At the event, where she had also interacted with Ini Edo and Eniola Ajao while soliciting support for late Aunty Ajara, Toriola quickly expressed her displeasure when Enioluwa tried to exchange pleasantries with her.
Speaking in Yoruba, she said:
“You said Wumi, you call me by my name (opemi loruko), why would you call me Wunmi?”
Realising his mistake, Enioluwa immediately apologised, held onto her, and corrected himself by addressing her as “Aunty Wunmi,” turning the moment into a lighter, more playful exchange.

The incident, however, sparked reactions online, with some social media users criticising the influencer and accusing him of being disrespectful, especially given assumptions about their age difference.

But jokes apart, why will Enioluwa call Wumi Toriola by her name?
The tree of the nose is far from the head
Wumi is close to 40 and Enioluwa is just 26
In Yoruba culture, that’s very disrespectful

Responding to the debate, Toriola addressed the issue on her Instagram story, clarifying her age and background.
She wrote:
“I saw people debating my age. Nor be everybody ise dey gbo o, na all my family get baby face. I finished sec school in 2003 (I repeat o do the maths) 16 nor dey enter uni that time o.”
