A 37-year-old man has drawn attention online after sharing his performance in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which he retook 16 years after his first attempt.
The man revealed that his decision to sit for the exam again was driven by his desire to return to school and pursue a second degree.
Having previously studied Mass Communication, he said he now intends to study English Language.
Explaining his motivation, he wrote:
“At 37, I want to go back to school to study English Language after studying Mass Communication for four years.”
He added: “So I wrote JAMB in 2026.”
After checking his result, the candidate expressed satisfaction with his performance, noting that he surpassed the score he achieved during his first attempt years ago.
According to him: “Here’s my JAMB result.”
“I scored 285, more than the 261 I scored when I first wrote the exam 16 years ago.”
Interestingly, he disclosed that he did not engage in extensive preparation before sitting for the exam.
He said his study effort was limited to a few recommended texts and poems.
In his words:
“I literally didn’t read for this exam. I only managed to complete ‘The Lekki Headmaster’ and ‘The Marriage of Anansewa’ and recommended poems.”
He further admitted that he did not prepare for some subjects at all, stating:
“I didn’t open any CRK books, I didn’t read anything else in English or Government.”
Despite this, he remains hopeful about securing admission to further his education, adding:
“I hope to get the admission so I can get another degree.”
