The Nigerian entertainment scene is in mourning following the passing of gospel singer and Nollywood soundtrack artiste Onos Brisibi.
The 55-year-old was reported to have died on March 23, 2026, after battling a long-term illness, with her family confirming the news in an emotional statement released days later.
In announcing her death, the family reflected on her life and legacy, describing her as someone deeply devoted to her faith and music.
In their words:
“The Brisibi family announces with deep sorrow the passing of Esteemed Sister Onos Nancy Brisibi, who transitioned to glory… after a protracted illness.”
They further stressed the impact she made during her lifetime, stating:
“She was a devoted Christian, a gifted songstress, and a passionate praise and worship leader whose angelic voice touched many lives.”
Onos Brisibi began her musical journey at a young age and went on to become a familiar voice in Nollywood, contributing to soundtracks of notable films such as Domitilla, Mortal Inheritance, Blood Money, and Shame.
She also made contributions to mainstream music, including lending her voice to “Gra Gra” by Lagbaja.
Following the announcement, tributes have poured in from colleagues and fans.
Actress Stella Damasus expressed sadness over the loss, while broadcaster Emma Ugolee shared his shock, noting he had only recently learned about her health struggles.
Born on November 20, 1970, in Aladja, Delta State, she is survived by her daughter, Sarah Brisibi, her mother, siblings, and her church community at LoveWorld Ministries.
