Nollywood actress and evangelist Eucharia Anunobi has opened up about the painful circumstances surrounding the death of her son years ago, revealing the emotional trauma she faced after the tragic incident.
The veteran actress shared the story while appearing on the Honest Bunch Podcast, where she spoke about her life, spiritual journey, career in Nollywood, and several deeply personal experiences.
During the conversation, Anunobi explained that her only child died at the age of 16. She revealed that when he was about a year old, medical tests confirmed that he had sickle cell anemia.
Determined to protect his health, the actress said she invested heavily in his care, spending large sums of money on treatments and researching natural remedies that could help him stay healthy.
According to her, she was extremely careful about his lifestyle. She ensured he ate organic meals, drank only bottled water, and avoided being outdoors during certain periods of the day to reduce the risk of mosquito bites and other health complications.
She noted that the precautions appeared to work, as her son remained stable and healthy between the ages of seven and fourteen.
However, the situation took a tragic turn when he turned 16. Anunobi said she took him to the hospital for what was meant to be a routine medical examination, even though he was not showing any signs of illness.
At the hospital, a doctor asked when he had last received a blood transfusion. After hearing that it had been done when he was much younger, the doctor recommended another transfusion and asked a student doctor to carry out the procedure.
According to the actress, the situation went terribly wrong when the student doctor mistakenly drained her son’s blood (blood extraction) instead of transfusing him (blood transfusion). He became extremely weak and pale and was rushed to the intensive care unit.
Despite efforts by medical staff to stabilise him, Anunobi said her son eventually died, a loss she attributed to medical negligence.
