A Facebook Live broadcast by May Edochie’s former lawyer, Barrister Emeka Ugwuonye, took an unexpected turn on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, after a phone call from Nollywood actress Judy Austin was apparently picked up while the session was still live.
The lawyer appeared to believe he had muted the broadcast before answering the call, but viewers were reportedly able to hear parts of the conversation.
Judy Austin Calls Ugwuonye
According to reports, Judy contacted Ugwuonye after returning from the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja, where she had attended proceedings connected to two separate defamation cases.
Viewers following the lawyer’s livestream reportedly heard him tell his audience that he needed to answer a phone call before attempting to mute the session.
However, the audio apparently continued, allowing those watching the broadcast to hear what was intended to be a private exchange.
Judy was reportedly seeking an update on the day’s court proceedings and waiting to receive further guidance.
A caption displayed over the circulating video read: “Emeka Ugwuonye is the Mastermind of Judy’s court case.”
Judy’s Court Appearance in Abuja
The incident occurred on the same day Judy Austin was seen at the FCT High Court in Abuja.
The actress is pursuing separate legal actions against veteran actress Rita Edochie and her former husband, Emmanuel Obasi, with the combined claims running into billions of naira.
One of the cases, involving Obasi, was adjourned until November 24 following the September 29 proceedings.
Judy Seeks N1 Billion in General Damages
In the suit against Obasi, which was filed in July 2026, Judy is demanding N1 billion in general damages over alleged defamation.
Court documents also reportedly show claims for N500 million in aggravated damages and another N500 million in exemplary damages.
She is further seeking N100 million for the cost of the legal action and an additional N100 million for prosecuting the case.
Other Reliefs Sought by Judy
Beyond the financial compensation, Judy is asking the court to direct Obasi to issue a full and unconditional retraction and apology.
She wants the apology published in at least two widely circulated national newspapers as well as on his social media accounts.
The actress is also seeking an injunction preventing Obasi and his representatives from continuing to publish the allegedly defamatory material, alongside an order requiring the removal of existing content.
