Nollywood actress Mo Bimpe has addressed the controversy surrounding a short video of her with fellow actor Jide Awobona that recently sparked debate online.
The footage was recorded at the September 2, 2026 premiere of A Mama Deola Wedding Story in Lagos.
Mo Bimpe Addresses Viral Video
In the clip, Mo Bimpe was seen wearing a white bridal-inspired outfit while resting her arm on Jide Awobona’s shoulder as they looked at something on her phone and engaged in a conversation.
Her husband, actor Lateef Adedimeji, was seated beside them at the event.
The brief interaction attracted attention online, with some viewers questioning the level of closeness between Mo Bimpe and Jide. Some also claimed that Lateef appeared uncomfortable during the exchange and debated what should be considered an appropriate boundary between married couples and friends.
Four days after the premiere, on September 6, Mo Bimpe responded to the criticism through her Instagram story.
She explained that she saw nothing inappropriate about the interaction and described her marriage to Lateef as one based on trust and confidence.
In her words:
“A one minute clip of myself & Jide has somehow become a topic of public analysis,” she wrote.
“It’s fascinating how a normal conversation between friends has become suspicious to some of you. Not every marriage is built on fear, insecurity, and constant monitoring. Some marriages are built on trust, friendship, respect, and confidence. The fact that so many of you found that interaction strange says more about the relationships you’re used to than it does about mine. Not every marriage is toxic, there are still healthy marriages but I understand if you can’t relate. My husband is a secure man, a brief conversation with a family friend does not threaten our marriage, or require anyone’s concern.”
Mo Bimpe, Lateef and Jide’s Longstanding Friendship
Mo Bimpe and Lateef Adedimeji have been married since December 2021. The couple have previously spoken about their friendship and relationship before getting married.
The pair also welcomed triplets earlier in 2026.
Jide Awobona is reportedly a longtime friend of the couple and has been seen around their family on various occasions, including events involving their children.
Mo Bimpe’s response made it clear that she considers her interaction with Jide to have been an ordinary conversation between friends.
She also appeared to push back against the assumptions made by some social media users, insisting that the brief exchange should not be interpreted as a threat to her marriage.
