Veteran Yoruba actor Musiliu Dasofunjo, widely recognised as Baba Jogunomi, has opened up about his battle with prostate cancer, revealing the early symptom he initially overlooked.
The actor spoke about his health struggle in a video shared on Facebook by fellow actor Kunle Afod.
He explained that he decided to share his experience to educate the public and encourage people to pay attention to unusual changes in their bodies.
Baba Jogunomi recalled that one of the first changes he noticed involved his urination. He said his urine stream became unusual, as it no longer came out normally but instead sprayed in different directions.
Despite noticing the change, the veteran actor said he initially dismissed it and did not realise it could indicate a serious health problem.
His condition later became more challenging when he started struggling to urinate. He was subsequently advised to visit a hospital for proper medical attention.
After undergoing various examinations and scans, Baba Jogunomi was referred to the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan. He said a specialist there recommended that he undergo an additional cancer test.
According to the actor, doctors explained that the procedure would require taking a tissue sample from his body for further examination. However, he admitted that the recommendation frightened him and made him hesitant to undergo the procedure.
“I can’t allow the doctor to cut some parts of my body to do an advanced cancer test,” he said.
Speaking about why he chose to make his experience public, Baba Jogunomi said he wanted others to learn from his situation and become more informed about cancer.
“I’m sharing this for people to learn and be informed because cancer is now on the rise,” he said.
