Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has dismissed viral claims that he publicly disowned or chased out one of his well-known supporters, Randy Peters, following a widely circulated video that sparked reactions on social media.
The controversy began after a video showed Peter Akah being seemingly chased or rejected by Peter Obi when he tried to come close to him. The clip quickly gained traction online, with many Nigerians debating the nature of the interaction.
However, Peter Obi has now clarified that the narrative being circulated is false.
According to the former Anambra State governor, the viral clip was misinterpreted, insisting that he did not disown or dismiss Randy Peters.
Obi explained that what happened in the video was simply an attempt to get Randy Peters to move quickly and enter the vehicle, rather than a public rebuke as suggested by some social media posts.
His clarification comes amid growing online discussions surrounding the incident, which had fuelled speculation about the relationship between the politician and one of his vocal supporters.
The response has helped counter the claims that Obi intentionally distanced himself from Randy Peters, with supporters pointing to his explanation as evidence that the viral narrative was misleading.
