Cement prices in Nigeria continue to vary significantly from one location to another, with buyers often paying different amounts for the same brand and 50kg bag depending on their supplier and location.
A recent survey examined prices from dealers offering Dangote Cement, BUA Cement, Lafarge Cement and Mangal Cement, alongside distributors supplying multiple brands across different parts of the country.
Cement prices by brand and location
BUA Cement emerged as the cheapest option among the prices recorded in the survey, with some major distributors selling a 50kg bag for N8,500.
A nationwide distributor quoted N9,000 for both Dangote and BUA Cement, while a supplier operating in Anambra listed the two brands at N9,500 per bag.
In Ogun State, several dealers offered different cement brands, including BUA, Mangal, Dangote and Lafarge, at N9,999.
Prices were higher in some parts of Lagos. A verified BUA distributor quoted N10,100 per bag, while another distributor offering Dangote, BUA and Lafarge Cement listed the products at N10,550.
A dealer in Ogun charged N10,700 for Dangote and BUA Cement, while a supplier in Ajah, Lagos, listed the same brands at N11,100.
Meanwhile, available listings for 50kg Dangote Cement showed prices ranging from N8,900 to N14,050, depending on the seller.
Lafarge and specialised cement products
Lafarge Cement, which is also marketed under the Unicem name, was listed at N12,000 for a 50kg bag by a dealer in Owerri.
In Ibadan, a distributor selling Dangote, Lafarge and BUA Cement quoted N10,550, while a supplier in Ijebu-Ode offered a combination of Dangote, BUA, Lafarge and Mangal Cement for N10,800.
A dealer in Akure listed Dangote, BUA and Lafarge Cement at N10,500 per bag.
The most expensive product identified in the survey was Lafarge Water Shield waterproof cement, which was priced at N18,000 per 50kg bag in Lagos.
The premium product costs considerably more than standard cement, highlighting the price difference between ordinary cement and specialised construction materials.
Highest quoted prices
The survey recorded the following highest prices for the different brands and products:
- Dangote Cement: N11,100
- BUA Cement: N11,100
- Lafarge Cement: N12,000
- Lafarge Water Shield: N18,000
- Mangal Cement: N10,800
The varying prices show why consumers, contractors and builders may benefit from checking several suppliers before purchasing large quantities of cement.
For people working on major construction projects, even a small difference in the price of one bag can translate into substantial savings when buying dozens or hundreds of bags.
Cement prices were previously around N5,000 per bag on average, meaning current prices represent a significant increase compared with earlier levels.
