Popular skit maker Akinyoola Ayoola, widely known as Kamo State, has addressed the rumours surrounding his relationship with filmmaker Funke Akindele.
He sharply dismissed speculation that the pair are no longer on good terms and insisting that their bond remains stronger than ever.
In an interview with BBC Yoruba on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, Kamo State, who named his daughter after Akindele, reflected on how their relationship began while also setting the record straight about reports of a possible disagreement between them.
How Kamo State Met Funke Akindele
The content creator revealed that Akindele had long been someone he looked up to before they eventually met face-to-face.
He said their first physical encounter took place on the set of Everybody Loves Jenifa, where the filmmaker’s kindness and the way she treated him immediately made a strong impression on him.
“Before I met her, she had been like a role model to me; I love very much. The first time I saw her in person was on the set of Everybody Loves Jenifa. I started calling her mummy because of how she treated me on set,” he said.
Kamo State further explained that Akindele recognised his dedication to his craft, leading to a stronger professional relationship that saw them work together on a number of her projects, including Ayetoro and Behind The Scene.
Speaking about why they are no longer frequently seen together as they were in the past, Kamo State attributed the change to their demanding schedules rather than any disagreement or personal issues.
He noted that Akindele has been preoccupied with her December project, leaving her with little time, while he has also experienced considerable growth in his career and public profile compared to where he was a year ago.
“We are still together, even closer. But now she is very busy with her December project, which didn’t give her a chance. I am also not the same as I used to be last year, and her prayer is that I should also always be called to work on projects,” he said.
Kamo State also addressed the rumours of a rift between them, making it clear that there has never been a fight and appealing to people not to create a conflict that does not exist.
“There is no fight; don’t let people paint what doesn’t exist,” he added.
