A throwback video featuring the late Lagos NURTW Organising Secretary, Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Toba Ijaya, has resurfaced online following his death.
The clip prompted renewed discussions about his personality, generosity and the impression he left on people who knew him.
The footage shows Toba Ijaya hosting a Sallah celebration, during which members of the Hausa community publicly celebrated him for ensuring that vulnerable people in attendance were also remembered and cared for.
Their heartfelt appreciation offered a glimpse into the impact of his generosity, especially during a period when giving to others and supporting the less privileged hold significant cultural and religious importance.
Previous reports stated that Toba Ijaya was allegedly shot on a Sunday evening in the Fadeyi area of Lagos after paying a visit to childhood friends in the neighbourhood.
The attackers, whose identities remained unknown, reportedly opened fire on his vehicle as he was leaving the area.
Although he was immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention, he eventually succumbed to the injuries sustained in the attack.
Three other passengers travelling in the vehicle were also reportedly hit by gunfire and were receiving treatment in hospital at the time of reporting.
Images showing the vehicle riddled with bullets subsequently circulated widely on social media, leaving many people shocked by the incident.
Following the attack, the Lagos State Police Command commenced a search for those responsible, while its spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that an investigation into the incident was underway.
Toba Ijaya was later laid to rest in Ketu, Lagos, as family members, colleagues and supporters came together to mourn his passing in deeply emotional scenes.
