On the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, a Nigerian man identified as @DurojaiyeSegun has shared his first hand experience of the significant impact Toba Ijaya, the late NURTW official, had on the Yoruba community in Mushin, Lagos State.
In a post made on July 21, 2026, he highlighted what he described as a striking difference between Toba Ijaya and other notable NURTW officials, including the popular MC Oluomo.
He stated that in the late 1990s and early 2000s, following the death of late Nigerian presidential aspirant M.K.O. Abiola, Toba Ijaya was among those at the forefront of efforts to defend the Yoruba community in Mushin during communal clashes between Yoruba and Hausa residents.
@DurojaiyeSegun claimed that whenever large groups of Hausa residents from the Idi Araba community attempted to invade the Yoruba community in Mushin, Toba Ijaya, who was an OPC leader at the time, would mobilize squads to foil their attacks.
According to him, Toba Ijaya’s significant impact on the Yoruba community is one of the major reasons many people have come forward to sympathize with his family and pay their respects following his death.
He wrote: “There is a difference between Toba Ijaya and the likes of MC Oluomo.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, after the death of Abiola, when there were serious communal clashes between Yorubas in Mushin and Hausas in Idi Araba part of Mushin, Toba was among those who led squads to defend the Yoruba community of Mushin.
Whenever large groups of the Hausas advanced from Idi Araba at night with arms and gvns, they would foil their attacks. During many of the tribal clashes, Toba, as an OPC leader, was always at the forefront of defending the Yoruba community.
That is why so many people have come out to sympathize with his family and pay him last respect.
A man’s legacy is measured by the lives he stood up for, so is Toba.”
