A Nigerian man identified on X, formerly known as Twitter, as @Oladele has shared an observation he made while watching a video from the funeral of the late National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Lagos State Organizing Secretary, Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Toba Ijaya.
According to him, he came across a video showing the song service held for Toba Ijaya during his funeral and noticed several people genuinely expressing their grief as they mourned his tragic death.
However, what struck him the most was the way Toba Ijaya’s daughter spoke while delivering a heartfelt tribute to her late father during the funeral service.
@Oladele said he was surprised by how fluently she expressed herself, noting that she spoke with a British accent, which he viewed as an indication that the late NURTW official had invested in giving his daughter a quality education.
The observation also led him to reflect more deeply on a lesson he said he had learned from his grandfather.
According to him, his grandfather once explained that many men go through difficult and sometimes morally questionable paths in life because they want to provide their children with opportunities and a better standard of living than they experienced themselves.
He wrote: “I saw the video of the funeral service/song for Toba Ijaya, the NURTW man who was murdered, and how many people loved him and were crying. It was so touching.
But what surprised me most was when his daughter spoke, and it was in a fluent British accent. I just nodded my head and remembered what my grandpa used to tell me: a lot of men will do dirty work just to give their children a better life than they had.”
