The Delta State Executive Council, under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved the formal institutionalisation of a 13th-month salary for civil servants across the state.
In addition to the salary initiative, the governor revealed plans to employ more teachers for public secondary schools and provide improved equipment for technical colleges.
According to the administration, the decisions form part of ongoing efforts to enhance workers’ welfare while strengthening the state’s education system.
Addressing journalists after the Executive Council meeting, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, disclosed that the council approved a memo presented by the governor to make the annual 13th-month salary a permanent statutory entitlement for Delta State civil servants.
Aniagwu also stated that the approval would pave the way for an executive bill to be forwarded to the Delta State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and approval.
According to Tribune, the commissioner said the objective of the policy is to ensure that payment of the 13th-month salary will no longer depend on the discretion of future administrations but will instead become a guaranteed entitlement for workers in the state.
