Nana Otedola, the wife of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, has publicly responded to long-standing assumptions about her nationality and family background.
In a video that has gained widespread attention online, Nana opened up about her heritage during a conversation with her pregnant daughter, Temi Otedola.
Over the years, speculation has surrounded Nana’s origins, with many people believing she is Ghanaian. The assumption has largely been linked to her name and physical appearance.
Addressing the matter directly, Nana dismissed those claims and set the record straight. In the trending clip, she proudly identified herself as Nigerian and revealed that her ancestral roots can be traced to Abeokuta in Ogun State.
She noted that while she appreciates the curiosity people have expressed regarding her background, she believed it was necessary to clearly state where she comes from.
According to her: “To clear the room for everybody, I’m an Egba woman, and that’s the part I’ll gladly claim as a Nigerian. I am not a Ghanaian; my roots are in Abeokuta.”
Nana went on to explain that the misunderstanding surrounding her identity may be connected to her childhood experiences and the various regions of Nigeria where she spent her formative years.
She revealed that she was born in Kaduna State and lived there for nearly twenty years. According to her, spending such a significant portion of her life in northern Nigeria may have contributed to the perceptions people have formed about her background.
She said: “I was born in Kaduna and lived there for almost two decades.” Even with her strong ties to Kaduna, she emphasized that her ethnic heritage is firmly rooted in Egba land.”
