A Nigerian nurse living abroad, popularly known on Facebook as Abroad Nurse, has weighed in on the discussions sparked by the revelation of late actor Alexx Ekubo’s wife during his service of songs ceremony.
The memorial event took place on Wednesday, June 10, at The Monarch Event Center in Lekki, Lagos, and has continued to generate conversation online following the unexpected attention surrounding the actor’s widow.
Throughout his life, Alexx Ekubo was known for keeping details of his private life away from public scrutiny. His discretion fuelled years of speculation about his marital status and whether he had children.
However, the appearance of his wife at the remembrance event appears to have settled many of those lingering questions.
Abroad Nurse shares advice for Alexx Ekubo’s widow
In a Facebook post shared on June 12, Abroad Nurse addressed criticism directed at bloggers who uncovered the identity of Alexx Ekubo’s wife.
According to her, those blaming bloggers were overlooking the fact that speculation intensified after someone reportedly mentioned during a condolence speech that the actor’s wife would miss him.
She argued that the comment, rather than media coverage, was what reignited public curiosity about the woman’s identity.
The overseas-based nurse also reflected on the widow’s decision to conceal her face during the service of songs.
While acknowledging the efforts made to protect her privacy, she questioned whether hiding her identity was truly necessary and encouraged her to embrace life on her own terms moving forward.
According to Abroad Nurse, the late actor had already fulfilled his wish of shielding his wife from public attention during his lifetime. She suggested that, now that he is gone, the widow should make decisions based on what she wants rather than what others expect of her or what they believe Alexx would have wanted.
She wrote:
“…Alex already carried out his intention. To keep her private ( for their sanity) during their time together.
“Now he is gone. “She needs to live her life on her terms, not based on what he wanted or what people THINK is best for her. “Did she cover her face because she wants to stay “hidden” or because she was advised to do so considering Alex worked so hard to keep it that way?.”
The Facebook user went on to raise additional concerns about the continued efforts to keep the widow’s identity out of the spotlight.
She pointed out that speeches delivered during the event, particularly remarks made by the widow’s sister, contained extensive references to the couple’s relationship, something she believed naturally heightened public curiosity.
She added:
“Her sister spoke about her at length at that ceremony. Their love was elaborated so much that it continued to feed into people’s curiosity. “Why dwell so much on their union if you wanted privacy still for your sister? Does her family want her to stay hidden? “Then again, why should she still be hidden? “What is social media and journalism if not to poke their nose into people’s lives regardless of consequences and outcomes?.”
Abroad Nurse further defended bloggers who investigated and later revealed details about the late actor’s wife online. In her view, public curiosity surrounding the matter made such interest almost inevitable.
She continued: “Can anyone sincerely tell me they were not also curious and trying to know who she is? “Some people attacking bloggers are also happy they have done the work for them.
She is young and needs to live life at the fullest, whatever that means to HER.
“She doesn’t need to be on social media, she doesn’t have to respond to anyone or post anything. “Every once in a while her name may pop up and people will say one or two and that’s it. The media feeds into as much as you provide for them so guard your life and privacy on YOUR TERMS.”

Netizens react;
The post generated a wave of reactions from social media users, many of whom shared differing opinions on the matter.
Nonye Amah said: “My take on this matter is, they probably wanted the privacy, cause Alex sort of knew he wouldn’t make it, so he didn’t want anyone stigmatizing her when he’s gone and also because it’ll be easier for her to move on if her identity is hidden.
“And yes, we can’t overemphasize the need for privacy especially after what happened with Fancy.”
Ihuoma Peace Onyechere said: “I think she is the one who wants privacy. The Alex I have seen and watched for many years would have told the world he was married to a very beautiful lady after what happened between him and Fancy. The lady is obviously a very very private person. She had to even hide her face and was practically sneaked out of the hall after the service of song.”
Goodness Madumere said: “Well said. Bloggers were always going to dig up her profile one way or another.
“There were a lot of things that shouldn’t have been done if they TRULY wanted to hide her identity. Also, I think they should have taken it a step further by not allowing phones and cameras if complete secrecy was their aim.”
