Popular Nigerian clergyman Pastor Jerry Eze has shared an emotional account of how he learned of the passing of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, revealing that he had arranged to visit him just one day before he died.
Ekubo passed away on May 11, 2026, following a prolonged battle with metastatic kidney cancer.
His death sent shockwaves through the Nigerian entertainment industry and beyond, with tributes pouring in from fans, colleagues, and public figures alike.
A Service of Songs was held in his honour on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at the Monarch Event Centre in Lagos, drawing celebrities, family members, and well-wishers together to celebrate his life.
Pastor Jerry Eze, convener of the New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations (NSPPD), was among those who ministered at the event.
During his exhortation, he disclosed that Alexx had personally expressed a desire for him to come and see him, and that he and gospel musician, Pastor Nathaniel Bassey had agreed to pay the visit on a Tuesday.
Tragically, Ekubo passed away the day before they were due to arrive.
Recounting the events, Pastor Jerry said:
“Like Pastor Nath said, when we knew about the severity of what he was going through. It’s no longer news that Alexx went quiet on every one of us. When we knew how severe it was, Pastor Nath agreed that we were going to see Alexx on Tuesday because it was really what he wanted, but by Monday, Alexx passed. We still agreed that Tuesday was a date and we were still going to meet with Alexx and pray with Anwuli and the entire family.”
