Nigerian clergyman Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa has opened up about a frightening ordeal his family endured while gospel singer and wife, Mercy Chinwo was expecting their second child.
Speaking to his congregation, Pastor Blessed recalled the moment the award-winning singer suddenly collapsed at home, leaving him shaken and helpless.
According to him, Chinwo had stepped out of their room and walked to their son’s room when she began complaining of feeling unwell.
She then collapsed without warning, and her face began to darken as she became unresponsive.
A Desperate Call for Help
With his attempts to revive her proving unsuccessful, Pastor Blessed reached out to fellow clergyman and gospel musician Pastor Nathaniel Bassey by phone.
Bassey reportedly requested a switch to a video call to assess the situation directly, before making his way to the couple’s home accompanied by the Hallelujah Challenge prayer team.
Following a session of intense prayers, Chinwo was revived. Bassey is said to have described the episode as a spiritual attack.
Pastor Blessed also revealed that his wife had been scheduled to minister at Nathaniel Bassey’s programme the very next day.
Reflecting on the bond he shares with Bassey and the events of that day, he said:
“Pastor Nath is a blessing to my family. We talk all the time, and I am honoured to have access to him. I can remember what he did when my wife was pregnant with my second child. She came out of the room and went to my son’s room. She started complaining and collapsed. Her face was dark, and I was confused because she was not responding. I called Pastor Nath, and he said that I should do a video call, and he came with the Hallelujah Challenge prayer team.”
Pastor Blessed also touched on the public backlash he faced at the time of their marriage, admitting that had Chinwo not pulled through, the criticism directed at him would have intensified significantly.
Mercy Chinwo later delivered their second child safely and announced the arrival to her fans via social media.
