The proposed transfer of Nigerian teenage sensation Zadok Yohanna from AIK Stockholm to Brighton & Hove Albion represents more than just a major breakthrough in the youngster’s career.
It could also deliver a significant financial boost to the academy that played a key role in his football development.
Brighton have reached an agreement worth £21.5 million to secure the services of the highly regarded winger, with the deal expected to be finalized once the summer transfer window opens officially on June 15.

According to BBC Sport, the move marks another significant milestone in the career of one of Nigeria’s most promising emerging football talents, whose rise through the European ranks has been remarkably swift.
Although attention has largely centered on Yohanna’s impending Premier League adventure, discussions have also intensified around the financial rewards his former club, Ikon Allah Football Academy, could receive through FIFA’s solidarity payment system.
Brighton seal blockbuster deal
Yohanna’s progression over the past year has been extraordinary. The 18-year-old only joined AIK Stockholm from Kaduna-based Ikon Allah Football Academy less than 12 months ago but used little time establishing himself as one of Swedish football’s standout young prospects.

Since making his first-team debut in August 2025, the winger has contributed five goals and four assists in 18 appearances, performances that reportedly caught the attention of several elite European sides, according to Transfermarkt.
Brighton ultimately emerged victorious in the race for his signature, fending off interest from clubs such as Chelsea and Newcastle United.
The Premier League side have rewarded the Nigerian youngster with a five-year contract, highlighting their confidence in his long-term development and future impact.
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler expressed his excitement about welcoming the teenager to the club.
“I’m looking forward to working with Zadok,” said Hurzeler.
He added: “Having seen his games and his attributes, he is a player that can impact games in the final third. “He’s still young, and will need time to adapt to the club and Premier League, but he’s an exciting player to watch and he brings the kind of creativity we know our fans will enjoy.”
Understanding FIFA’s solidarity mechanism
FIFA operates a compensation framework designed to ensure clubs that contribute to a player’s development are rewarded when that player completes international transfers later in his career.
Known as the FIFA Solidarity Mechanism, the regulation sets aside five percent of every international transfer fee for distribution among clubs that trained the player between the ages of 12 and 23.
Based on Yohanna’s reported £21.5 million move, the solidarity contribution would amount to £1.075 million. That sum is allocated among the clubs involved in the player’s football education during his formative years, with Ikon Allah Football Academy standing to benefit from the arrangement.
The initiative was introduced to recognize and reward grassroots institutions and youth academies that dedicate resources to nurturing future stars, even after those players progress to bigger clubs and leagues.
How much will Ikon Allah Academy receive?
Should Ikon Allah Football Academy have been responsible for Yohanna’s development throughout the period between ages 12 and 18, the academy would be eligible for approximately 2.5 percent of the total transfer value.
The figure is calculated using FIFA’s established formula:
Ages 12 to 15: Four years at 0.25 percent per year.
Ages 16 to 18: Three years at 0.50 percent per year.
Together, those years generate an entitlement equivalent to 2.5 percent of the transfer fee.
Applying that percentage to the reported £21.5 million transfer would result in a payment of roughly £537,500. At current exchange rates, that amount is estimated to be between ₦1.13 billion and ₦1.18 billion.
In addition, Ikon Allah is reportedly entitled to a separate percentage of the transfer fee after inserting a sell-on clause in Yohanna’s agreement with AIK Stockholm.
Using the £21.5 million valuation, the FIFA solidarity payment alone amounts to £1.075 million, which is available for distribution among all qualifying training clubs.
For a grassroots football academy, such a financial windfall could be transformative. The funds could be directed toward upgrading infrastructure, strengthening scouting operations, enhancing coaching programs, and creating better opportunities for the next generation of football talents emerging from Nigeria.
