Gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has come under intense criticism on social media following remarks she made about the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.
The singer addressed the issue during an Instagram Live session on Monday, June 1, while discussing the country’s growing security challenges.
Her comments came amid widespread outrage over the kidnapping of 47 pupils and seven teachers from a school in Orire Local Government Area on May 15.
During the live broadcast, Alaseyori urged Nigerians not to underestimate the importance of prayer in addressing security concerns.
According to her, security agencies and the military may be making efforts to rescue victims but could still face spiritual obstacles that hinder their operations.
She also defended President Bola Tinubu and the nation’s armed forces against accusations of inaction, insisting that authorities are working behind the scenes even when results are not immediately visible.
The gospel minister suggested that security operatives may sometimes be unable to locate criminals despite their efforts, stressing that prayers are necessary to support their work.
Her remarks quickly sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing disappointment and frustration.
Critics argued that families affected by kidnappings are seeking urgent action and accountability, while others accused the singer of appearing to defend the government amid growing public concern over insecurity.
