Veteran Nigerian music producer and CEO of Mavin Records, Don Jazzy, has finally responded after being dragged by Albinos in a recent trending video.
In a short video clip shared by JointheCruise on Instagram, several individuals with albinism were given the opportunity to speak openly about the struggles they encounter in their daily lives. Many of them highlighted similar challenges, including severe sunburn, social discrimination, and widespread misconceptions about their condition.
One of the guests revealed that sunburn injuries can take weeks or even months to heal completely. According to the participant, even after recovery, the affected skin often begins to peel.
A major talking point from the discussion, which eventually prompted Don Jazzy’s apology, was the issue of stereotyping. One of the guests expressed frustration over the common assumption that all people with albinism suffer from severe visual impairment.
The lady specifically pointed out that the Nigerian producer had, on several occasions, reposted skits that portrayed people with albinism as individuals who cannot see properly. She argued that such content helps reinforce harmful stereotypes and sends the wrong message to the public. According to her, the widespread misconception has cost many people with albinism valuable job opportunities.
Reacting to the claim, Don Jazzy displayed humility and offered a sincere apology to the guests featured on the show. He explained that he had collaborated with and reposted content from several people with albinism in the past, and none had ever raised concerns about the issue with him.
He further stated that whenever content creators ask him for a repost, he shares their work simply to support their hustle and never with the intention of mocking or misrepresenting people living with albinism.
He wrote:
“Oh wow. I am really sorry and I know better now. I have done skits with albinos before and they never complained about this and each time they tag me for a repost I do so just to support their hustle. So sorry once again.”
