Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has revealed why he no longer appoints female secretaries.
The revered cleric made this known while addressing members of his congregation, explaining that the nature of his work often keeps him engaged until very late at night.
According to him, the demanding schedule raised concerns about the possible risks of being alone with members of the opposite gender during such hours, prompting him to adopt a new approach.
As a result, Pastor Adeboye said he decided to work only with male secretaries for late-night assignments, describing the move as a personal precaution aimed at avoiding unnecessary situations or misunderstandings.
He was, however, quick to stress that the decision was not borne out of gender bias or discrimination. The pastor acknowledged the immense contributions of his former female secretaries, praising them as diligent, professional, and exemplary during the early years of his ministry.
In his words:
“From the moment I got to a stage where at night I still have to work, I cease to have a female secretary. Some people think it is gender discrimination. I know myself. I know who I was before Jesus saved my soul. I know the possibility of dangers, being left alone.
At night, with people of the opposite sex. Oh, but if you were to get a secretary like the last one I had, she was a wonderful child of God. She saved a very wonderful child of God. She was my secretary at Ebute Meta.
Wonderful lady. True child of the living God. And when I got here, I know I will see you in the office at 3 a.m. Now can we imagine, after a long day work, everybody finally we have seen the last visitor.”
