Nollywood actress Judy Austin was spotted leaving the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, amid ongoing legal battles involving her and two individuals.
The actress has instituted separate defamation suits against veteran actress Rita Edochie and her former husband, Emmanuel Obasi, with the combined claims exceeding N2 billion.
Judy Austin’s N1bn suit against ex-husband
One of the cases involves Judy’s former husband, Emmanuel Obasi, whom she sued earlier in July over alleged defamatory publications.
The matter came up for hearing on September 29 before it was adjourned to November 24.
In the suit, Judy is seeking N1 billion in general damages over the alleged defamation.
Court documents also show that she is demanding N500 million in aggravated damages and another N500 million in exemplary damages.
She is further asking for N100 million as the cost of the legal action and an additional N100 million for prosecuting the case.
Actress seeks apology and removal of alleged defamatory posts
Judy’s demands go beyond financial compensation.
She is asking the court to order Obasi to issue what she describes as a full and unreserved retraction and apology.
According to the claims outlined in the suit, the apology should be published in at least two widely circulated national newspapers and on his social media accounts.
The actress is also seeking an injunction restraining Obasi and his agents from continuing to publish the alleged defamatory material.
She wants the court to order the removal of posts and other content she considers defamatory.
Judy’s court appearance attracts attention
A video showing Judy leaving the Abuja court premises quickly circulated online, prompting reactions from social media users.
Much of the discussion surrounding the footage centred on the absence of her husband, actor Yul Edochie, from the court proceedings.
