Ogundepo Promise, a newly admitted student of the University of Ibadan, has achieved a major academic milestone by officially matriculating to study Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) at the institution.
The freshman took to X on March 18 to celebrate the achievement, sharing photos from his matriculation ceremony.
His journey to securing admission, however, was not without challenges.
Promise revealed that in 2023, he applied to Obafemi Awolowo University after scoring 291 in the UTME but was not offered admission.
Undeterred, he tried again the following year, this time choosing the University of Ibadan, where he scored 307. Despite the improved result, he was still unsuccessful.
His persistence eventually paid off in 2025 when he scored 328 in the UTME and gained admission into the MBBS programme at UI.
Sharing his journey online, he wrote:
“291 – OAU ( 2023).
307 – UI ( 2024).
328 – UI MBBS (2025).
Exactly one week ago, on the 11th of March, 2026, I matriculated into the prestigious University of Ibadan as a fresh medical student.
OGUNDEPO PROMISE A.
MBBS, IBADAN ( In View).”
In a separate post, he disclosed that he scored 80 out of 100 in his post-UTME examination, with an aggregate score of 81, surpassing the departmental cut-off mark of 78.875.
He also noted that he is open to scholarship opportunities as he begins his medical journey.
