She revealed this on her linkedIn page after her institution’s convocation ceremony, where she was opportune to have a handshake with her Vice Chancellor as a first-class graduate.
According to her, she scored a total of 274 in her UTME during one of her failed attempts, but was still denied admission.
Opeyemi luckily got admitted by the University of Lagos which made it her third attempt.
Her post read:
“Two days ago, It was my Convocation ceremony at the University of Lagos.
As I stepped forward and shook the Vice-Chancellor’s hand as a First Class graduate, I realized this was a moment I had quietly looked forward to for years. Watching other First Class graduates do the same over time, I often told myself: One day, that will be me.
What makes this moment even more meaningful is how long the journey really was.
Before gaining admission, I tried for two years. I applied to Lagos State University twice and didn’t get in, even with good JAMB scores. At one point, I scored 274, yet I still wasn’t admitted. Those years were some of the most frustrating and emotionally draining periods of my life. My friends and secondary school mates had all moved on, and I felt stuck, wondering what I was doing wrong.
On the third try, I made a different choice. In 2019, I applied to the University of Lagos and gained admission to study Business Administration.
From day one, I set a clear goal: I wanted to graduate with a First Class. I even told myself, nothing less than 4.8. Year 1 ended well with a CGPA of 4.79. Then came year 2 and my first real academic setback. My grades slipped. I recorded a 4.42 GPA in the first semester, earned my only C (Accounting), and ended the year with a CGPA of about 4.61. I was discouraged, overwhelmed, and honestly scared that my First Class dream was slipping away.
But I didn’t give up.
There were sleepless nights. Days I cried while studying because things felt hard to grasp. At the same time, I was intentionally upskilling, running programs, taking courses, and stretching myself beyond the classroom.
I enrolled in the alx_africa Salesforce Administrator program while still in school, right around exam season. Balancing lectures, assignments, hub visit and deadlines was exhausting. I wrote the Salesforce Admin exam the first time… and failed. I was devastated.
Still, I tried again.
I studied all over, rewrote the exam, and passed, becoming a Salesforce Certified Administrator. Along the way, I also trained as a Virtual Assistant and completed about four months of UI/UX design training. It wasn’t easy, but resilience carried me through.
By God’s grace, I finished strong.
I graduated with a 4.74 CGPA, ending my final semester with a perfect 5.0 GPA.
Looking back now, my story isn’t just about grades. It’s about resilience, persistence, and trusting God through delays and detours.
I truly give God all the glory.
I’m deeply thankful to everyone who supported me through this journey, family, Adekunle A Fasedemi, friends Kofoworola Abubakry, Nofisat Yusuf, coursemates, and everyone who encouraged me when things felt heavy.
As I step into this next phase, I’m carrying every lesson, every setback, and every win with me.
Here’s to resilience.
Here’s to growth.
And here’s to becoming everything God has prepared me to be 💪.”Â
