The mother of former Big Brother Naija housemate Angel Smith has publicly defended her daughter following the intense backlash trailing her decision to marry a same-gender partner.
The controversy began a few days ago after pre-wedding photos and videos of her and her partner surfaced online.
She also teased fans with a glimpse of her white wedding invitation card while interacting with a follower who openly criticised her choice, further fueling reactions online.
As the criticism grew, attention shifted to Angel’s mother, who also became a target of online attacks.
In response, she addressed the situation in a strongly worded post that has since gone viral. She revealed that she has embraced being called a “shameless woman,” a label given to her by critics over her daughter’s actions, adding that both she and her daughter have been subjected to unfair judgment.
Defending her stance, she argued that some of her daughter’s critics turn a blind eye to other controversial behaviours, including relationships involving married individuals, yet choose to condemn her daughter.
She maintained that Angel is far better than those who openly display questionable lifestyles on social media while judging others.
She further urged those criticising her daughter to reflect on their own lives before casting judgment. Emphasising Angel’s independence, she pointed out that her daughter is a breadwinner, challenging critics to focus on supporting their own families instead.
In a heated tone, she described her daughter’s detractors as hypocrites and “fools,” punctuating her remarks with laughter emojis.
Despite her defence, the post sparked even more reactions online, with some users intensifying their criticism.
