A viral social media claim that Iddo Netanyahu, the brother of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was killed in an Iranian airstrike in Tel Aviv has been debunked.
Videos circulating online suggested that Netanyahu’s brother was “burned alive” after a ballistic missile hit his residence, sparking widespread alarm.
The claim originated from an X user, @AFRICANDEMOC, who posted that Iddo Netanyahu had died in a missile strike, prompting others to share the video and accompanying messages praising the attack.
However, investigation revealed that the footage of the burning house was unrelated to Israel or Iran.
A reverse image search traced the video to a February 9, 2026, incident in Park Place, Galloway, New Jersey, United States. The image had originally been posted by an “Atlantic County Firefighters’ Association Photographer” and documented a local fire.
Google Maps imagery confirmed that the building shown in the video matched a house in New Jersey, not Tel Aviv.
The clip surfaced online weeks before the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28, 2026, proving it could not be linked to Middle Eastern events.
So far, there are no credible reports or official statements from the Israeli government confirming any harm to Iddo Netanyahu. Experts and fact-checkers have labeled the viral claim as misinformation.
Authorities and media outlets have urged the public to exercise caution and verify sources before sharing potentially false content online, emphasizing the dangers of viral disinformation in tense geopolitical contexts.
