A Nigerian socialite identified as Elena Jessica has reportedly died following complications linked to a second Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery.
Information circulating online claims that Jessica had previously undergone several cosmetic procedures and decided to undergo another BBL operation, which allegedly led to the complications that later claimed her life.
According to accounts shared by her sister, Elena underwent liposuction and fat transfer procedures to enhance her hips, buttocks, and calves.
The surgery reportedly took place on February 6 at Cynosure Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in Lagos.
Two days after the operation, she reportedly began experiencing intense pain around the treated areas.
Medical examinations later revealed that her white blood cell count had risen significantly, while her blood levels had dropped. As a result, doctors reportedly administered five pints of blood through transfusion.
Her sister explained that despite being placed on antibiotics, Elena’s health did not improve. Doctors later recommended another surgical procedure to remove excess fat, but her condition reportedly continued to deteriorate.
At that point, it was advised that she be transferred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
However, the family was reportedly unable to secure a hospital bed at the facility immediately. During the search for medical care, she allegedly spent about five hours inside an ambulance while in severe pain.
She was later taken to Emel Hospital in Festac, where the family was reportedly asked to pay ₦1.5 million for a single day in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Subsequently, she was transferred again to another medical facility where surgeons reportedly requested ₦6 million to carry out a procedure to remove infected fat linked to the earlier BBL surgery while she remained in intensive care.
Her sister disclosed that the family had to sell some of Elena’s personal belongings in an effort to raise money for the medical bills, as she was battling sepsis, a severe infection that spreads through the bloodstream.
She also accused the cosmetic clinic where the surgery was initially conducted of abandoning Elena during the crisis.
According to her, the family exhausted most of their resources trying to keep her alive, adding that their father is already retired.
The situation reportedly worsened when another hospital allegedly demanded ₦4.5 million to continue treatment. Unable to raise the funds, the family later confirmed that Elena eventually passed away.
