Kamaru Usman delivered an emotional message to Anthony Joshua after his car crash tragedy.
Just days after Anthony Joshua’s car crash in Nigeria claimed the lives of two of his close friends, the British heavyweight boxer received an emotional call from former UFC star Kamaru Usman.
The exchange captured a moment of strength, empathy, and perspective between two of combat sports’ most respected figures.
Joshua, who was recovering in hospital at the time, spoke to Usman ahead of the African Knockout Championship event in Lagos — an appearance that carried a heavy emotional weight.
In a recent video, former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman could be seen speaking with Anthony Joshua over a hospital video call.
The conversation took place just 24 hours after the crash that left the boxer injured and mourning the loss of his two close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.
Joshua, visibly shaken and covered in bandages, described what had happened. “Obviously, two of my close friends passed away. It still hasn’t sunk in. It still hasn’t hit me yet.”
Usman offered words of support and perspective in response. “You scared the world. It’s crazy because, obviously, we deal with the haters and all the b——- each and every time.
“It sucks that it takes something serious like this to really see how many people have their eyes on you.”
The call ended with both men reflecting on life’s fragility, with Joshua adding, “Life is short, man. And now look, I get to speak with you for the first time.”
Joshua was treated at the Duchess International Hospital in Lagos and spent New Year’s Eve recovering before flying back to the UK to attend the funerals of Ghami and Ayodele.
The incident occurred on December 29 when Joshua’s SUV collided with a stationary truck on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The boxer was originally seated in the front but swapped places moments before the crash, a decision that may have saved his life.
Despite his injuries and grief, Joshua appeared composed and grateful during his conversation with Usman.
Reacting to the FaceTime between the duo, most netizens lamented the lack of privacy.
