A video of veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva discussing the health challenges her late husband, Olu Jacobs, faced before his death has resurfaced online.
In the interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Silva opened up about the condition that had affected the legendary actor for several years.
According to the actress, Olu Jacobs had been battling dementia with Lewy bodies, a degenerative disease that affects the brain.
She explained that the condition shares some similarities with Parkinson’s disease but does not necessarily present with the same physical symptoms.
She said: “dealing with issues and it’s been going on for a couple of years it’s known as dementia with Lewy body.”
Joke Silva further explained the impact of the illness, noting that it affected Jacobs in a way that was difficult for both him and members of their family.
“And it’s a degenerative disease that affects the brain. And it’s almost like a kind of Parkinson’s, but that just it’s the brain that it affects. So you don’t see the shaking and things like that, you know, but it just affects the person. First time I’ve said that publicly.”
The actress also revealed that she had kept the information private until she felt the time was right to speak about it publicly.
She acknowledged the difficulties the family had experienced while caring for the actor, adding: “it’s hard on him because he doesn’t understand what’s going on.”
Silva concluded by acknowledging the family’s journey through the difficult period, saying: “So we’ve gone through it over the last couple of years and we thank God. We thank God.”
